Almost immediately, strange events escalate: George wakes at 3:15 a.m. (the time of the DeFeo murders), freezing cold spots appear, green slime oozes from plumbing, and a demonic pig-like creature (Jodie) haunts the youngest child. Kathy discovers a hidden red room in the basement. George becomes increasingly aggressive, chopping wood obsessively and growing physically violent. A priest (Philip Baker Hall) attempts to bless the house but is repelled by swarming flies and a voice screaming, “Get out!”
