By revealing the truth, he transforms the hot-headed Mills into "Wrath." When Mills pulls the trigger, he doesn’t just kill a monster; he fulfills John Doe’s masterpiece. The final line of dialogue—Hemingway via Somerset: "Ernest Hemingway once wrote, 'The world is a fine place and worth fighting for.' I agree with the second part." —leaves the audience in a state of exhausted, philosophical despair. Se7en changed the thriller genre. Before it, serial killer films ( The Silence of the Lambs aside) were often procedural whodunits. Se7en is a why done. The killer wins. There is no catharsis. The hero does not ride off into the sunset; he walks away into the rain, lost. He is meticulous, disillusioned, and has seen too much
