1. Introduction Outlast (Red Barrels, 2013) is a first-person survival horror game built on Unreal Engine 3. Like many console-oriented ports of that era, the PC version enforces a default 60 FPS cap. While stable for standard monitors, this limit becomes restrictive on modern high-refresh-rate displays (120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz). This paper explains the technical method to unlock the frame rate and analyzes the resulting gameplay trade-offs. 2. Technical Method: The Config File Edit Outlast does not offer an in-game FPS limiter. The unlock is achieved by modifying an Unreal Engine 3 configuration file.
