This paper examines a specific upgrade event referenced as “i--- Tftp Upgrade Firmware Version 1.255 Download” — interpreted as an internal TFTP session for upgrading a device to firmware version 1.255. We analyze potential security implications, including version string injection, lack of authentication, and downgrade attacks. Through controlled experimentation, we demonstrate that version 1.255 may be vulnerable to a TFTP block-number wrap attack, leading to incomplete or corrupted flashes. We propose mitigations including hash verification prior to TFTP transfer and out-of-band version confirmation.
