For decades, nature art meant watercolors and oil pastels. Today, photographers are the modern "hunters and gatherers" of beauty. But true wildlife photography transcends documentation—it becomes art when it evokes the same feeling as a landscape painting. Not black—use a dark teal.
I took this raw file (dark, flat, grey) and turned it into fine art by dropping the highlights, lifting the shadows, and adding a subtle green-teal split tone. The result feels like a painting.
Step one: Leave negative space. This heron needs room to breathe. Step two: Desaturate the background. Keep the bird at 100% color, drop everything else to 20%. Step three: Add a vignette. Not black—use a dark teal.
