He called it “The Skeleton Key.” It let him freeze local time, duplicate ephemeral keys, and most importantly, read the zone’s underlying narrative flags.
He tried to force quit. The neuro-interface didn’t respond. Marcus didn’t believe in ghosts
He stood at the southern pier, rain needling through his jacket. The air smelled of brine and burnt plastic.

He should have seen at least forty-seven AI units. He panned the camera—nothing. The island was empty except for him. And then a new string appeared in the memory viewer, one he’d never seen before.
