He sighed. These weren’t real routers, of course. They were old, loud, power-hungry 2600 series he’d bought for forty bucks each on eBay. Their fans whined like tiny, tortured jet engines. But to him, they were cathedrals of learning. Every blinking green LINK/ACT light was a star in his own private, logical universe.

The lab was more than a pile of junk. It was a crucible.
