Before they could unpack, Gustavo’s goons—a pair of terrifying security guards named Reginald and Reginald—dragged them to the Rocque Records studio. The audition room was all chrome and flashing lights. In the center stood Gustavo, arms crossed.

"Get them to L.A. tomorrow," Gustavo boomed. "We’re holding an audition. Tell them to bring… charisma."

Kendall looked up at the L.A. sky—smoggy, but full of stars he couldn’t see back home. His mom had texted: Don’t mess this up. Love you.
