Baofeng — Bf-s5 Plus Manual

He took a step. Then another.

He showed Leo how to match (Page 35, Table 4). Suddenly, the channel went pure. Clear.

He’d memorized the frequency chart on Page 22 . The VHF band (136-174 MHz) was empty. The UHF band (400-520 MHz) was a graveyard. He spun the rotary knob, stopping at every .025 step.

“Dad, that worked,” Leo said, relief pouring through the tiny speaker. “But the battery is at one bar.” baofeng bf-s5 plus manual

“I hear you,” he said, his voice cracking. “This is Elias. North side of the river.”

He’d bought the radio three years ago for a hiking trip. A cheap, plasticky thing. He’d used it once to chat with his son, Leo, on Channel 5, before Leo rolled his eyes and said, “Dad, just use WhatsApp.”

They had a plan. Leo would stay put. Elias would walk the old railway line. At noon each day, for exactly two minutes, they would transmit on low power (Menu 2: “Low is 1 watt for the close talking; High is 5 watts for the lying to the mountains” ). He took a step

He clipped the battery onto the BF-S5 Plus. It clicked with a satisfying thunk . He held the button (Page 11: “For listening the weak ghosts” ) and heard only static. The white noise of a dead world.

From a broken window in the library tower, a red LED flashed once. Twice. Then a voice, scratchy and young:

Now, WhatsApp was a ghost.

Elias’s heart hammered. He fumbled for the PTT button (Page 14: “Push to talk, release to listen. Do not shouting into the mic, is not a can.” )

Static.

“Loud and clear, Dad. I see you.”
